The Canadian Eventing Committee has named Kachemak Bay as Omega Alpha Canadian Event Horse of the Month for May.
Kachemak Bay, Frankie Simpson's 15-year-old Canadian Thoroughbred gelding, finished as the top Canadian entry, in fourth place, at the 2009 edition of the Jersey Fresh CCI 3* Three Day Event, held May 7-10, 2009, in Allentown, New Jersey, USA.
Ridden by Karl Slezak of Tottenham, ON, Kachemak Bay was tied for 20th place after dressage with a score of 63.4. Adding only 4.4 cross country time faults following a flawlessly ridden performance over John Williams' (USA) cross country course, Slezak and Kachemak Bay leaped up the leaderboard to fourth place. A clean ride in the show jumping round kept the pair in fourth place, finishing on a score of 67.8.
"I'm so proud of both Kachemak Bay (Zeus) and Karl. They really are a fantastic team, and I am so pleased with their results this year," said Simpson, who lives in Orangeville, ON. "Zeus is a really cool little horse with a larger than life personality, and he really does live to event. Hopefully the pair will have many great things to come. I'd like to give a big thank you to Omega Alpha and the Canadian Eventing Committee for recognizing these fantastic horses every month. This award is a really nice gesture to the horses, riders and owners."
