Alec Lochore Appointed Eventing Manager For 2012 Olympics
Blair Atholl, Scotland

The director of Blair Castle International Horse Trials, Alec Lochore has been appointed Eventing Manager by the London Organising Committee for the 2012 Olympic Games.

He will be responsible for the day-to-day project management and operational planning for the discipline of Eventing within the Equestrian programme. He will also manage the planning and development of the cross country course working closely with course designer Sue Benson and builders London Eventing. With input from the FEI and the British Equestrian Federation including British Eventing, Alec will ensure a high quality team of officials and volunteers is put in place to run the competition. He will also play a leading part in planning the Olympic test event, an eventing competition to be held in Greenwich Park in July 2011.

Alec, who hails originally from Burgie in Morayshire but now resides in Brancaster, Norfolk, was appointed Director of Blair Castle International Horse Trials in 2009 and earlier this year was successful in bidding for the European Young Riders Eventing Championships which will come to Blair for the second time in 2011.

Of his new appointment, Alec said, "I am thrilled to be taking on this role, working in a setting such as Greenwich Park, with its unique history, setting and undulations. It is wonderful to be part of an Olympics on home soil and I am honoured to be part of such a unique event and being part of a team that is working hard to deliver a first class equestrian event."

He hopes however, to continue to be involved with Blair Castle Horse Trials in some capacity, with the help of assistant director Hannah Wilkins who runs the office at Blair on a daily basis. He said, "Preparations are going smoothly for this year's event from 26th to 29th August with forward bookings at an all time high."

In joining the team for London 2012, Alec will be linking up with a former Blair Castle Director, Tim Hadaway, who is LOCOG's Equestrian Manager, responsible for all disciplines. Tim was in charge at Blair Castle from 1998 to 2001.
