Melbourne Attracts Equestrian Champions

Equestrian stars-a-plenty are gathered this week at the National Equestrian Centre at Werribee, Australia for the Melbourne International Three-Day Event, which starts today and runs through to Monday, 14 June.
The event presents as one of the final opportunities for Eventing riders to impress the national selectors ahead of the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
The selectors will be watching the CCI3* class, which has an impressive start-list including 2008 Olympic Silver medallists Megan Jones, Shane Rose and Sonja Johnson as well as 2000 Olympic Gold Medallist Stuart Tinney and recent winner of the Australian HSBC FEI World Cup qualifier Christopher Burton. In all there are 24 riders competing in the CCI3*. Adding the CCI1* and CCI2* classes, a total of 159 riders will be competing, representing not only Australia but also India, Finland and New Zealand.
Incorporating a great entertainment over the Queen's Birthday long weekend this event is a highlight on the Australian Eventing rider's calendar.
Adjacent to the beautiful surrounds of Werribee Park Mansion, the National Equestrian Centre is only half an hour from the City. Melbourne International Three-Day Event is not to be missed. Spectators are well catered for with the Dressage and Show Jumping phases held indoors. The Cross-Country course winds through the State Rose Garden and formal grounds of Werribee Park Mansion. Outdoor hospitality marquees on the Cross-Country course plus an expanded trade village, food court and wine and food show ensure an eventful weekend for all.
