Eventing at Horse of the Year
Hastings, New Zealand

RedBayGroup.com
If the sneak preview of the Dressage seen today is anything to go by, then the CIC3* title this year will be hotly contested. Alice Montgomery and the 'old boy' of the eventing world, Gordon won the class with a very tidy test proving that Eventers can indeed ride Dressage. Taking second place in this class, up and coming young rider featured on the 2016 Eventing Squad, were Lizzie Brown and the ever popular Henton Attorney General. Two of the boys in this class, Jonathan Paget and Clarke Johnstone for once having to take a back seat to the lady riders bringing up third and fourth place.

This year the CIC3* Dressage will be ridden in the main Dressage oval starting at 3.30pm on Friday with 20 riders starting. Matthew Grayling who won the class in 2009 on the talented ride, Parklane Hawk (since sold overseas) will be keen on a repeat performance on his mount for this year NRM Cruzintime. Lizzie Brown has had a fantastic season so far, winning the NZ One Day Eventing Championships on Henton Attorney General (affectionately known as Frank) in November 2009, so she will be looking for another win.

The CIC2*, Novice and Young Rider class will be held at the Polo Fields starting at 9am on Friday morning. The CIC2* class is very well supported in 2010 with nearly 30 entries, some with multiple rides. Included in this class are the Young Rider Trans Tasman Long list, this being the final selection event before the team is named. This team of five will compete in Christchurch over Anzac weekend against the top Young Riders in Australia at the South Island Three Day Event, McLeans Island.

Organisers are excited about the Cross country course created by talented designer John Nicholson and look forward to seeing how the track riders. The Equestrian Park is looking lush and green this year and the track will be great to watch. The riders love to ride John's courses and this year will be no different. Show Director, Kevin Hanson has invested another $15,000 into the cross country course this year and is looking forward to hosting one of the largest three star events in the country. On Saturday, the Cross Country starts at 11.00am over at the Flaxmere venue (Hawkes Bay Equestrian Park), the 2* starting at 12.30, followed by the always exciting 3* at 2.00pm. Busses will be running between equestrian venues throughout the day.
