Sydney Event Leaps into Action for Breast Cancer Network Australia

Australia's Triple gold medallist Andrew Hoy arrived from Germany just hours before competition began at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. Andrew (centre) joined volunteer Andrea Webb (left) and 3* Competitor Amanda Howell (right) at the first jump on the cross country course that is decorated with pink ladies to raise awareness for Beast Cancer Network Australia. Andrea and Amanda, both survivors of the disease, discussed the role of BCNA in helping women diagnosed with breast cancer and hope that the spectacular jump helps to promote the Network.

Riders in the CCI** class began their competition on Thursday 10 September with the Dressage phase. Stuart Tinney leads the field on GV Billy Elliot with 51 penalties. He is followed by Tim Boland on Mercator Du Ry with 52.1 penalties and Shane Rose on Koko Black with 54.8 penalties. Up and coming young rider, Lauren Balcomb from the North Shore of Sydney is lying in fourth with a score of 55.4.

Chris Burton on Haruzac leads the riders in the NSW Institute of Sport Pre Novice Class with just 38.4 penalties. Luke Harmer and My Foxy Lady are the first of the junior riders lying in 12th place and Nidhi Dev from India is the first placed rider in the Eventing NSW Asian Pacific Challenge Trophy.

The Australian Sport Commission CCI* and the Equestrian NSW CCI*** riders begin their competition on Friday. The CCI* class starts at 8:30am in Arena 2 and the CCI*** kicks of with Sandra Lucas on Arrisa scheduled to enter the main arena at 2pm. All competitors will complete the cross country phase on Saturday 12 September.
