It has been confirmed that the Irish rider who died following a fall at an event in England today (Sunday) was 47 year-old Eventing Ireland member Ian Olding from Co. Antrim.
The accident occurred while Mr. Olding was competing in a British national class at the one-day event at Belton Park in Lincolnshire.
Eventing Ireland Chairman John Wright said from Dublin today: "We are shocked at this sad fatality and on behalf of Eventing Ireland I would like to express our deepest sympathy to Ian's family, friends and colleagues and also to our colleagues in British Eventing. Ian was well known and well liked on the international circuit, where he rode for many years. He moved to Cheshire ten years ago to live and work. Everyone here is very saddened by this tragic event."
Ian Olding was riding his horse 'Gran-Kiki' in the national advanced class at Belton Park when the fall occurred at Fence 13 this morning. Details of the fatality were withheld until next-of-kin could be informed.
