Canadians Head To NAJYRC

It has been announced that three British Columbia riders and two Ontario riders, have been named to compete as Canada's Junior and Young Rider Eventing competitors at the prestigious North American Junior/Young Riders Championships (NAJYRC) in Parker Colorado July 29 - August 3, 2008.

Julia Norman from Kelowna BC, Marissa  Wolfe from British Columbia, Stephanie Rhodes-Bosch from British Columbia, Jacqueline Bradshaw of Sebringville Ontario, and Sarah Talaga of Richmond Hill, Ontario, their equestrian partners, coaches, parents, grooms and support staff will leave this week to compete in the Olympic sport of Eventing as part of the North American Junior and Young Riders Championships.  Four will compete as part of Canada's Junior team CCI* (combined with riders from British Columbia and Ontario), one will compete as an individual rider in the CCI** competition.  They will be representing their provinces and riding against teams and individuals from Bermuda, the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States.

17 year old, Julia Norman from Kelowna BC, riding her own and Angela Norman's Sauvignon 16yr old TB, qualified with strong finish at CCl * Galway  Nov 07 and a recent win at Colorado Horse Park CCl * in May 07.  Based in Kelowna BC, she traveled to the Fork Farm in Norwood NC to train with Rebecca Howard following Colorado Horse Park in May. A very committed grade 11 student, Julia flew back and forth across the continent to finish exams while training out East. She had a strong '07 season at the Prelim level with many top finishes in BC and Washington.  She trains  in Kelowna with former BCYR Shannon Thompson and Joni Lynn Peters. Fellow BCYR Corine Smith will groom from Julia.

Marissa Wolfe, who will celebrate her 18th birthday July 30th, from Pitt Meadows BC. Riding her own "The Maestro", a 12 yr old Thoroughbred.  She is coached in BC by Nikki Ayers, qualified through strong finishes at ClC* in both Montana and Twin Rivers in 07, followed that up with 2nd place finish at Colorado Horse Park  CCl *,in May 08. Marissa's groom is Andi-Mae Warner.

18 year old Jacqueline Bradshaw from Ontario rides "Wizard of Oz", a 13 year old Thoroughbred gelding, who has been her eventing partner since 2005.   Jacqueline and Oz spent 14 months in Aiken South Carolina training and competing before they returned to Canada this spring to train with Ann Morgan of Will O' Wind Farm at Orangeville Ontario.   Jacqueline and Oz will be accompanied by her coach Ann, and her groom Alicia Meconi.

17 year old Sarah Talaga from Ontario, rides "Vena", a nine year old Dutch Warmblood/Thoroughbred cross mare.  Sarah and Vena became partners in the winter of 2007.  They are coached by Alex Hrybachov of Schomberg ON.  Sarah will be accompanied by her coach Alex and her groom Dasha Ivandaeva.

The above 4 riders will represent their respective provinces individually, but will also be combined to represent Canada in the CCI* competition.  The team coach will be Rebecca Howard and the Chef D'Equip will be Ontario's Ann Morgan.

Canada's lone CCI** competitor, Stephanie Rhodes-Bosch from Summerland BC, 20, will be riding her own "Port Authority" a 10 yr old Selle Francais/Tb gelding.  She has owned him for five years and brought him along from a youngster herself, with the support of former Quebec coach Eric Ferrier and Shannon Thompson, before traveling east to pursue a life long dream.

She qualified through CCl ** Florida Horse Park in November 07, the highest Canadian in 9th place and repeated that performance at the Jersey Fresh CCl ** in May 08.  Stephanie has been based at the Fork Farm in Norwood North Carolina since March 07 as a working student for Rebecca Howard, and has been very strong at the Intermediate level. Stephanie will join up with long time friend and fellow BCYR Dana Cooke who will groom for her.

The BC riders will be accompanied by coaches Rebecca Howard and Nikki Ayers.
