Future Management Of Irish Elite Eventing Squads
Last Thursday night, Eventing Ireland, at a Board Meeting attended by Damien McDonald, CEO of Horse Sport Ireland, accepted a proposal to transfer responsibility for the management and administration of International Eventing to HSI. The arrangement is similar to that already entered into by HSI with the Show Jumping Association of Ireland ( SJAI ).
Following the selection of a Performance Manager by an agreed panel he/she will be employed by HSI and managed by a committee of three suitably qualified people - a chairman and two advisors. Administrative support will be supplied by HSI through their Equestrian Sports Manager and finances will be controlled by the HSI Finance Manager.
This will hopefully take international training, performance and selection to a new level building on the progress made over the last two years. The development of the sport nationally and regionally and the preparation of future international riders will remain the responsibility of Eventing Ireland's Training and Performance Team in conjunction with the new Performance Manager and the Education and Training Manager at HSI.
It is intended to commence the recruitment process immediately with a view to having a Performance Manager in place in January 2008. The structure for managing the Young Rider, Junior and Pony squads will be set up as soon as possible.
Joe Walsh, Chairman and Damien Mc Donald, CEO Horse Sport Ireland and the Board of Eventing Ireland expressed their satisfaction at this latest step forward in the development of the Irish Horse Sport Industry.
