Pegasus Design Group Takes the Top Sponsorship Spot for the March 2007 Event
Ocala, FL, USA
Based in Golden, Colorado, the company is owned by Holly Ann Matt who, in addition to being an accomplished architectural designer with two decades of experience working with commercial, institutional and private clients, is a life-long horse enthusiast and equine professional. Raised on a farm where horses were bred for race and show, Ms. Matt has competed and judged in regional, national and international-level horse industry events in various disciplines for the past 30 years.
"We are so excited to be a part of this great new horse sport," states Matt. "It's wonderful to be involved in something that brings different aspects of the equestrian world together. And with the very best international talent coming out to compete, we should be in for a special afternoon." DerbyCross team members are a veritable "Who's Who" of equestrian sport, including Olympians and World Champions, Bruce Davidson, Karen O'Connor, Darren Chiacchia, Leslie Law and Aaron Vale.
This not the first time Matt has stepped up to the plate to support horse sports in the U.S. She also came on board for the USEA's Eventing Hall of Fame Gala held during their annual convention this past December. "We are very fortunate to have individuals like Holly who show their continual dedication to the horse / human relationship through their actions," says Dana Voorhees, president of Equestrian Entertainment Partners and Co-Executive Director of DerbyCross Events, LLC. "With her help, and help from those like her, we can bring horse sports to a much larger audience and a new level of recognition in this country."
Additional sponsors for DerbyCross include The Fork Stables, Dunlavin Eventing, Maui Jim Sunglasses, Equilite, Meredyth South, Lisa Barry Photography, AM South Bank, Virginia Equine Imaging and Winning Edge.
DerbyCross™ was conceived and developed by Rebecca Howard, Equestrian Director at The Fork Stables , Sinead Halpin, Director of Dunlavin Eventing, Dana Voorhees, president of Equestrian Entertainment Partners and Juan Salinas-Bentley, Director of Great Meadow Polo. "Here's how it works...", explains Howard. "The course is a strategically designed track combining cross country 'questions' such as ditches, logs and water with show jumps. It will ask the horses to be brave over cross country fences and then careful over the show jumps, against the clock." Returning as the designer for the challenging DerbyCross course will be Olympic Gold Medalist and U.S. Equestrian Federation president, David O'Connor.
This year, five teams, led by Team Captains, Karen O'Connor, Darren Chiacchia, Buck Davidson, Leslie Law (UK) and Kyle Carter (CAN) will be tackling the O'Connor designed course. Riders will accumulate seconds for penalties incurred on course, including four seconds per dropped rail. Disobediences such as refusals or falls will be penalized by the extra time taken. The team with the fastest overall time will triumph in this winner-take-all competition.
There are a select number of tail gate spots still available ranging for $150. General admission ($15) and VIP tickets ($50) will also be sold. The DerbyCross competition will begin at 2:00 pm at Overlook Farm located just outside of Ocala in Reddick, Florida. For more information go to www.derbycross.com.
