Dr Harald Müller appointed to the position of Executive Director Development and Sports of the FEI

The FEI has announced that Dr Harald Müller (GER) has been appointed as the Executive Director Development and Sports of the FEI, a new position within the FEI headquarters. Harald will strengthen the Development department as well as taking on some of the responsibilities of former Sports Director, Mr Michael Stone who is now FEI Secretary General.

Dr. Harald Müller of German nationality, born and raised in the Aachen area, comes to the FEI with a solid and comprehensive background in sports development and management. Since 2004, he acted as Senior Manager for Education at the International Association of Athletics Federation IAAF, where he oversaw the education of coaches, judges and key officials within more than 160 Member Federations. He also coordinated the network of the IAAF Accredited Training Centers (ATC), operated the IAAF scholarship programme and was responsible for scientific projects and publications. Prior to this, Dr. Müller worked in both curriculum design and implementation of the Coaches Education and Certification system for the IAAF, including various research projects on the efficiency of development measures. These commitments saw Dr. Müller travel and lecture extensively around the world and led to the publication of several books on sport development cooperation, athletics and training theory. Harald received a doctorate from Cologne University in Sociology with a focus on sports development and went on to become Senior Lecturer in Athletics at Cologne.

Aside from the theoretical, Mr. Müller has also been an active coach in decathlon/heptathlon for the past twenty years.

Dr Müller's appointment, which took effect on 1 January 2007 coincides with the new structure of the FEI headquarters, aimed at modernizing the FEI structure and giving more responsibility to the professional staff. In this regard the existing managers of the sports, development and veterinary departments will become Directors which more accurately describes their roles, and will report to Dr Müller.

The new structure includes the appointment of the current General Counsel Alex McLin to the position of Deputy Secretary General whilst retaining his existing duties. The other changes see Christophe Troendle becoming Executive Director Commercial and Communications and Neerja Tannan becoming Executive Director Finance, Administration and Human Resources.
