Homebush, NSW, Australia

The Australian Eventing Selectors selected a squad of five young riders and horses that left Australia this morning for New Zealand. They will compete in the Trans Tasman Challenge at the Richfields CCI 2* (7-10 December 2006).

Eventing Young Rider Coordinator Gill Rolton is acting as Chef d'Equipe. Assistant National Eventing Coach Sam Lyle and Team Vet Andrew Hunt will help prepare riders and horses for this important challenge.

The Australian squad is:

Rider Horse State
Emma Dougall - Dotcom - Qld
Emma Hoath - Kiwi Mystery - NSW
Jessica Mitchell - AEC Storman - NSW
Cammy O'Rourke - Kirby Park Irish Jamie - WA
Clinton Van Der Sanden - Tarr Ritzi - NSW

Australia is the current holders of the Young Rider Trans Tasman trophy, which was won two years ago in Sydney.

The Australian Federation hopes that the team can emulate the 2004 performance and again win the title and trophy. The 2006 squad consists of some of Australia's most promising Young Rider that will all be experiencing their first overseas campaign.

The team of four to contest the Trans Tasman will be named following the vet inspection on Thursday 7 December. The other squad member will contest the event as an individual.
