The team, consisting of Norval, ON native, Jessica Di Genova, Waylon Roberts of Port Perry, ON, Kelly List of Bracebridge, ON, and Laura Thompson of Red Deer, AB, received the Bronze Medal with a total team penalty score of 175.
A combined team dressage score of 168.2 put them in fourth position. Di Genova was awarded the highest score (48.1) with her 16-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Upolu, placing them at the top of the individual field.
The team held their position with an overall score of 175 following cross-country, where Di Genova dropped to third place individually by incurring four time faults. Roberts moved from 15th to 12th position with a clear cross-country aboard the 11-year-old Thoroughbred gelding Paleface, owned by his mother, Kelly Plitz. List moved up from 18th to 15th place after just 2.8 time faults, aboard her eight-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, Minstral.
The Bronze Medal was secured when Roberts, List and Di Genova all went clear in show jumping and moved ahead of the USA Area V team, who added 8 penalties in show jumping. Winning the Gold Medal was USA Area I&III, while Area II received Silver.
"The team was really good, and very strong in jumping," commented Di Genova, who was competing at the NAJYRC for the second time, having won the Non-Championship division in 2005. "It was nice to get Team Bronze, it's the first time in years that the CCI 2* team has won a medal."
Di Genova's individual score of 52.1 also earned her the Individual Bronze Medal. She explained that a mere four cross-country time faults cost her the Gold Medal, but she was really happy with her horse's performance. "I'm kicking myself over the time faults, but it was nice to stay in medal contention," she said.
Roberts and Paleface, who were competing in their fourth consecutive NAJYRC competition finished eighth individually, while List earned 11th place. Thompson, who was competing at the Championships' for the first time aboard Dr. Bernice Capusten's 10-year-old Anglo-Trakehner gelding, Quinn placed 19th individually.
Canada had immense success at this year's Championships, with the Canada West Young Riders' Dressage Team claiming the Team Gold and team member Pia Fortmuller winning Individual Gold. The Junior Riders' Dressage Team won the Team Silver Medal, followed by a Bronze Medal finish by the Junior Riders' Show Jumping Team. The Junior/Young Rider Eventing Team won Gold in the CCI* Non-Championship, with team member Kendal Lehari receiving Individual Gold.
