New for 2006 is the Cross Country Challenge and Fun Run which offers runners the opportunity to take on the cross-country course - minus the jumps of course!
The four-legged athletes gallop round the 6km course jumping over 30 fences on Saturday, but on Sunday 27th August it will be the turn of those on two legs who fancy the challenge of tackling the hills and glens surrounding picturesque Blair Castle.
Runners can choose between a 6km cross country race, a 3.5km cross country race and a 2km fun run which is open to anyone. Prizes and trophies will be presented for the two races while all finishers will receive a souvenir medal.
Of course the big advantage of taking part in the Blair Castle Cross Country Challenge and Fun Run is the fact that once the hard work is done, competitors are free to enjoy the final day of the horse trials which includes showjumping and main arena displays not to mention all the activities in the Bruadar Country Fair arena and shopping at over 200 tradestands.
Teams of three or four can be entered in all races, although teams in the 6km and 3.5km must be single sex. Entry fees range from £4 to £15 depending on age and which race but this includes entry to the Blair Castle International Horse Trials which normally costs £10 per adult and £4 for under 16's. It is a scottishathletics Permit Event and will be run under UK Athletics rules.
Competitors are encouraged to run and raise money for a charity of their choice but if unsure of which charity to support the organisers hope they will consider running for the horse trials nominated charity for 2006 - the Equine Grass Sickness Fund.
Entry forms, schedules and sponsorship forms can be downloaded from the website at www.blairhorsetrials.co.uk
