About the Torch Relay
The Town of Caledon is one of more than 130 communities – with 3,000 torchbearers participating – to take part in 41-day journey starting in May 2015 with the traditional Aztec lighting ceremony at the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico. The Canadian journey for the flame starts with its arrival in Toronto on May 30, 2015. It will then travel to the five other Canadian cities – Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, Halifax and the Greater Vancouver Area – and more than 130 Ontario communities, including the Town of Caledon, towards the lighting of the cauldron on July 10, 2015, during the Opening Ceremony in downtown Toronto.
Along with the Caledon community torchbearer nomination process, community members have the opportunity to register to be one of 3,000 torchbearers through TORONTO2015’s random draw. To help kick off the search for torchbearers last month, TO2015 named its first honorary torchbearer: famed Canadian astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield.
