Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials Wins International Award
Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (LRBHT) in Stamford, England has won global recognition and been voted the best horse trials event in the World by the renowned international equestrian yearbook L'Année Hippique.
The awards, which were first launched in 1987, invite riders from the three Olympic equestrian disciplines of Dressage, Eventing and Show Jumping to nominate their favourite shows based on criteria such as stabling, ground conditions, course preparation and prize money.
This is the seventh year that Burghley Horse Trials has been selected as the pre-eminent horse trials venue in the world, meaning that the Stamford-based event has won the award more often than any other eventing competition.
International eventer and Chairman of Eventing Riders Association Francis Whittington said: "Burghley Horse Trials isn't just special because it is one of the premier 4 star events in the world; it is also one of the friendliest events where nothing is too much trouble. It is this atmosphere that is loved by members of the public and riders alike."
Commenting on the win, Elizabeth Inman Event Director said: "To win the L'Année Hippique award for the seventh time is hugely rewarding. It is a great reflection on all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, particularly that of our competition secretary Anne Whitton. There are so many other unsung heroes at Burghley Horse Trials from the stable managers to the hundreds of volunteers who give up their time. The fact that it is the riders who vote makes win particularly special."
The other winners to be recognised by L'Année Hippique this year are Geneva CHI in Switzerland for Show Jumping and Aachen in Germany for Dressage.
